Nuclear Waste Services Annual Review 2023–24: Progress Towards Permanent Nuclear Safety

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) has published its Annual Review for 2023–24, showcasing significant progress in nuclear waste management. The report highlights achievements such as maintaining a stellar safety record with the 18th consecutive RoSPA Gold Award and advancing the Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) for long-term radioactive waste solutions. Community engagement and site evaluations are underway, marking key steps toward secure nuclear waste disposal.

Additionally, NWS has demonstrated substantial cost-efficiency, diverting 98% of waste from disposal, resulting in savings of nearly £60 million in the past year and over £900 million in the last decade. The organization also emphasizes innovative approaches, including new technologies for waste treatment and the largest-ever recruitment drive for graduates and apprenticeships.
